Iraqi civil resistance leader Houzan Mahmoud to speak in NYC

Iraqi civil resistance leader Houzan Mahmoud will speak in New York City on Tuesday March 21. Houzan Mahmoud is a co-founder of the Iraqi Freedom Congress, a recent initiative to build a democratic, secular and progressive alternative to both the US occupation and political Islam in Iraq. Mahmoud, who fled Iraq in 1996 and is currently studying at the University of London, is also a cofounder of the Iraqi Women's Rights Coalition and editor-in-chief of Equal Rights Now, paper of the Organization for Women's Freedom in Iraq. The event, sponsored by the New SPACE, will be held at 7 PM at the Clemente Soto Vélez Cultural & Educational Center at 107 Suffolk Street, between Rivington Street and Delancey Street, in the Lower East Side of Manhattan. The talk will meet on the second floor in the Art Gallery. Directions: F train to Delancey Street or J , M , or Z to Essex Street. Exit at the North East corner of the Delancey/Essex station (look for the escalator), walk 2 blocks east to Suffolk Street, and turn left (north).
