Harakmbut leaders in Peru's Amazon region of Madre de Dios march in the regional capital, Puerto Maldonado. On Sept. 13 indigenous leaders issued a statement rejecting a Hunt Oil exploration contract the government has granted on their ancestral lands. The statement imposed a deadline for Hunt Oil to quit their territory before indigenous communities physically expel them.
