Peru: regional strike paralyzes south over Camisea LNG project

The Native Federation of the Rio Madre de Dios (FENAMAD) marches in the jungle city of Puerto Maldonado. Social movements in Peru's Southern Macro-region held a paro, or general strike, June 17 through 18, to demand a halt to the natural gas contract with the Camisea LNG consortium and the Inambari hydro-power plant in the conflicted Amazon region.
